tired

Somehow I didn't drink myself out of this funk on Sunday, even
though it was a six-bar night starting at 11pm. (dear candice,
from candice's stomach, 6 cups of coffee at the end is too much.)

I dunno what else I can do. Wish I could have not fucked up.

food bliss

Stick that golden fork in me, I'm done. Chucky and I went
to Commander's tonight, and I have officially spoiled my
appetite for anything for the next oh, three months?

Anyone want snow?

My car, as of 4pm, actual snow falling as opposed to sleet.

Julie is stranded at DCA for the night it looks like, and I am
going to attempt to get across the lake for christmas dinner.

UPDATE (after getting back from dinner):
Julie is getting flown back to boston and out here on Monday
instead, my mom barely managed to keep it together during
dinner without her here. It quit snowing in the evening.

ugh. white shit.

Falling from the sky. HERE.

I have not seen frozen precipitation since March 14, 2003.

o suburbia

Living here never ceases to amaze me. We have really
really small front yards where I live. That hasn't seemed
to stop anyone so far, though.

In the spirit of uglychristmaslights.com:

These look kickass, the blue house and the green house
are about a block from each other. Palm tree and all.

The inflated characters, spongebob, lots of snowmen and
grinches, the occasional scooby doo, are all overshadowed
by this one giant santa.

A couple of last tokens: biggest fake tree and a cute little
field of lollipops.

Merry Christmas.

Oh James!

It's christmas eve, and again I get glued to the TV for
lack of anything else to do. Christmas has really failed
to register this year. Along the lines of Bond cars, I saw
a Lotus Elise on the street the other day downtown.

There's this vague theoretical possibility of snow hanging
out there at the moment. I thought I was done with that.

well...

Fell off of -that- wagon. Bought one pack, smoked two,
put the rest in my kitchen drawer. Feel better already.

Now if I could just fix everything else.

new leotard smell

It brings me back to being five years old or however old
and it being "costumes arrived finally" day in dance
class, getting to tear open plastic and try stuff on. One
of these arrived tonight (black, duh), as I ditched almost
all of my old leotards (even the famous red one-too big).

Moving away from the girly nonsense: Pictures.
I have been taking pictures of neat looking stuff around
the city, those are some of the ones I like so far.

messy problems

Timing problems with dirty input are driving me mad.
Adding in delays at certain spots sometimes fixes it, and
running through truss or gdb nearly always does, slowing
down the program enough to help itself. (Non-blocking
curses-based i/o, on a frontend that runs over ssh, is
used to flush the buffers, before anyone tells me about
that, and i'm adding in delays too.)

While my head is in codespace and I'm still being amused
at my lone coworker getting to eat crow over his logic
again, I had intended to mention this a few days ago:

glibc has a backtrace function. It's not in the manpages,
it might be in the info files, but really, I don't have three
weeks to learn emacs commands just to read a goddamn
manpage when it's online. I spliced this into the exception
handler that sends me mail and fails whenever something
strange happens, and it is all manner of happiness.

dog dreams

I've been having a bunch of bad dreams about current
and former and supposed future dogs being hurt or
killed or taken lately. Only thing I can think of is it being
related to putting chelsea to sleep last year around this
time.

It is so Monday right now, it sucks. I almost wish I had
coworkers so I didn't have to be alone with my thoughts.

news scumming

It took a mix of stress to get me to configure up enough rss
to start collecting links again. These days random crap ends
up on the del.icio.us feed first.

I am so typing vi commands in this textbox right now.

'Merger of equals' to recast the US wireless landscape
HP to make $3 billion Itanium commitment
Shoppers offered chance to Lord it up.
Symantec in talks to acquire Veritas Software
Lithuania unearths liquor pipeline from Belarus

Flashbacks...

Seeing a copy of Scat Magazine in a bathroom at a friend's
house instantly brought my brain into really bad places.

I present to you the ugliest light fixture I have seen in

collect carnival glass. I know ugly when I see it.)

sheep go to heaven...

I am camera re-enabled. And I think I am out too much, my
bartenders have invited me to parties. (For halloween -
instead of that I ended up on a marathon 12-hour barhop
in the quarter and the marigny.)
