I have to post something.
This has been the most fucked up year of my life.
Night one was like being the last people on earth, with CNN
but no phones or power or way out.
I can't watch the anniversary coverage.
I drive through Lakeview and Gentilly twice a week to go
to UNO, a little island of manicured green lawns in a vast
brown water stained wasteland of broken dreams.
I still haven't been to the lower 9.
I wish I had the energy to do more for other people.
I have my FEMA number memorized.

Interrupting this intermission to say: My toes are better
again after an injury in ballet a few weeks ago. I can
wear heels again! Happy lovely black and pink pinstriped
three and a half inch heels!
Of course the weather sucks for them, but whatever.

I am tired, I am burnt out, and I have classes starting Monday.
I can't remember the last time I had a day off. I don't have
anyone to blame but myself for it, either.
If I have enough braincells to help out with a small yet
controversial project this weekend, I will, if not, fuck it.
Starting a business will kill you if you're not careful.
If you are in the position to buy me a drink you already have
my phone number. I'm out.

I am in a really weird headspace right now. Dealing with
both perl and C# at once is on the code side. Mix in a
hefty dose of OS X Server being generally brainless*, and
you get burnt out.
Oh, and the IIS server hangup problem of doom**, but we are
so not going there right now. We are hoping it will settle
itself out with the most recent fix.
I have tomorrow off, kind of. Dear cellphone, please do not
ring tomorrow morning. Dear cellphone, if you ring, please
be an easy to fix Unix problem. Thank you.
I did, however, manage to check out a handful of bars in
walking distance of my new place this weekend. Nothing can
make me happy like wandering into a packed bar at 2am on a
Friday night, music so loud you can barely hear yourself think,
and feeling right at home.
*I didn't know it was possible to fuck up Unix services so
badly. This stuff is as bad as Irix, but worse, in ways,
due to lack of logging, logfiles in weird places, services
not having restart options other than "kill" and their own
particular broken variety of OpenLDAP which acts contrary to
the published documentation.
**Yes, I work on all those platforms now, too. The Mac only
because someone thought buying Xserves was a good idea.

Poor sgi, its plastic face started to crack, so I had to take
her back down to bare metal.
And no, I haven't brought her up yet. Remembering to bring the
cds to my office and having the time to do it have not happened
at the same time yet.
And my camera magically started working. Sweet.

So, in addition to getting into fights on the internets with
some of Chartreuse's readers here about it, I've offered to
help out on the ground with this project. This should get
interesting.
Any locals with suggestions on more people to point them at
and locations to go to are appreciated.
I so suck at these proper bloggish posts with all of the
links out. There are plenty of other people talking about
this and a couple of them want to interview me. Lovely.

Already. Dear something.
Recovering from my latest project. It's still got some rough
edges but it's live. My camera is on the fritz so all yall
are going to get out of me is cameraphone-picture posts for
a little while.
To all my music video junkie friends: VH1 Classic is playing
the entire first day of MTV. (Replay on Saturday morning.)
