smart cafe

So I was just at the coffeehouse around the corner* to get a
cup of coffee and do some French homework, and remembered to
post about their nifty coffee card file. Instead of giving
out little cards to punch which you then lose, they have a
small, brightly colored index card file next to the register.
You put your name on a card and file it, and it's there the
next time you go in. No card to lose. Old hat, I'm sure, but
it's the first time I've seen it.

My coffee place here still does the punch card you have to keep track of. And of course, when I walk down to the store, I forget the card. Which then irritates me and makes me not want to go back (yes, I know...it's not their fault I can't remember the card). However, I think I will share your example with the store manager!

Exactly. They probably have about a hundred little cards in the file so far over there. Only really works for coffeehouses with one location. (We've got a bunch of mini-chains here, complicating that idea.)
