Sign on a restaurant in the riverfront in Madisonville,
and part of me has to wonder if this is a reaction to
half of St. Bernard moving to St. Tammany parish after
the thing.

Apologies, I've been too busy. Two deaths in the family
this week and it's been a long one. Enjoy the weather,
and see you folk around.

I haven't used any of these since 2005, some of them even
longer than that. They are getting donated. Skirt I and IV
are in this pile.
And why? I'm moving at the end of the month, found a nice
little place in the Irish Channel, a block and change off
of Magazine. Already got rid of a bunch of old shoes and
clothes. Two or three more machines/carcasses need to go,
but this is a good start.

Levee wall, top of the industrial canal, about where the
giant barge was, in the ninth ward. That's Damon standing
staring at it, as opposed to staring into the void you get
from looking out at this vantage point.
That one is new. The rest of them, well. They all matter.

That field? Yeah. We ran into a cop over by the new levee,
he sounded lonely, said his aunt's house used to be "by that
big tree over there, at least we knew where it was."
We took Damon on a wander through the lower 9th on Saturday,
and I'd not really explored over there much, feeling that it
wasn't my place. It's the emptiness that gets me.

Tracey and Justin's wedding was very, very cool. Held at
Mardi Gras World (warning, music), in one of the float dens
with lit floats at the sides of the room. Beats the hell
out of any ballroom wedding I've ever been to.

Why is it all so expensive? Because that's the only way to
get paid. I was explaining this to someone yesterday.
"Okay, so you know how you set charges (prices) for all this
stuff, right? Basically, look up what Medicare pays out for
the procedure code, and double it, and that's your charge.
Private insurance will pay you something completely random
that's in between Medicare and your charges, and call the
rest of it an adjustment, which you then write off.
And if you know the system and are uninsured, you can often
ask a provider if you can pay them whatever they get from
Blue Cross, and they'll be happy with that, because they'd
rather not send you to collections for not paying at all."

I have nothing interesting to report.
Looking for a new place in the city, so if anyone knows of
anything good for under 1000 where I can have a dog, drop
me a line. I'm perfectly willing to pay for the neighborhood,
you know?

This may just be the thing I hate most about C.
More than hellish macros. And I -really- hate macros. A few
years ago I actually had to go dig out my K&R to figure out
what it did. (Not to mention the case statement I once found
that uses continues instead of breaks.)
