dogs and balconies

cute susie

I think this is properly called a gallery that we have,
since it is under a roof, but I really don't care. What
I do care about is that the yap-yap dog (and its owner)
in the adjacent apartment is gone! No more yapping tiny
dog out on the balcony all day! It's nice to actually
be able to go out there, without it trying to pick a
fight with Susie and being generally noisy.

It is summer, which in my world, means work more. See
you all on the flip side.

Regarding gallery vs. balcony, I used to live on Decatur, upstairs from where Salon d'Malta is now (it was a leather mask place at the time). I would refer to my second floor balcony, and some people would presumptuously correct me and say it's a gallery. I begged to differ. My take on it (and I don't care if it's backed up by anything) is that if it's covered by the main roof of the building - as in the case of a Creole cottage, for instance - then it's a gallery. The Decatur balcony, like most in the Quarter, is covered by a separate little roof attached to the facade. I call that a balcony. I have spoken.

Well, this one qualifies as a gallery by your definitions then. It's one of those uptown greek revivals with the columns that are structurally integral to the house.

Now if only the window to get out onto it didn't weigh half a ton.
