My name is Candice Quates and I fix things.
"pink xterm" is the working title for my consulting business.
I fell into contracting full-time in early 2006 after the business
I was working for dissolved thanks to a hurricane, having worked
contract occasionally for a few years.
At the moment I have a couple of clients that take up lots of time,
but if you need someone to move servers or lock down a machine,
or fix some program or other, drop me a line. I don't bite, really.
I've done a bunch
of authentication integration lately, across Linux, the Mac, and Windows.
LDAP, kerberos, AD, that kind of thing. Programming-wise right now I do
C, perl, C#, asp.net, and school has forced me to re-learn Java, so I
suppose I could get by in that too. I try to avoid databases only to
end up writing stored procedures on SQL Server, but at least it doesn't
suck too badly. Another specialty is debugging stuff on various forms
of Unix.
Hourly rates vary, based on project size. Taking care of servers works better
by a monthly retainer.
My linkedin
profile has a rough approximation of who I've worked for, but not that great of a
skills overview. I've been all over the board on that in the last
few years. Based in New Orleans and probably going to stay here
until I get done with school, two classes at a time.
I have a weblog
here, with little
stories and pictures and the occasional tech rant.
